The Most Popular Street Style Trends, as Worn by Our Editors at NYFW
Fashion Week introduces trends for the season to come, but it also keeps us firmly rooted in the current moment through street style snapshots. What people wear while skipping from one show to the next is often just as inspiring as anything you'll see walking down the runway — if not more so.
After several seasons of digital-only or hybrid-presentation models due to the pandemic, New York Fashion Week returned back to its roots with a packed schedule of in-person shows and events, running over the course of six days. From Sept. 8-13, Fashion Week brought together style enthusiasts from across the world, all looking toward the spring/summer 2024 season. They stepped out in bold sartorial statements, from quiet luxury dresses and chic flats to dramatic prints that turned heads.
Other noteworthy street style trends included texture play, co-ord sets, and romantic florals. On the footwear front, show goers continued to favor platforms and also took a tip from the runways by opting for stylish and comfortable walking shoes. But kitten heels and sneakers remained a go-to for those looking to strike a balance between fashion and function.
Outerwear favorites, when necessary given the humidity in New York, were primarily bold-hued and worn oversize, with statement trench coats cinched at the waist reigning supreme. And some of the top handbag brands spotted on style stars? Prada, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Staud, Coperni, and Brandon Blackwood, just to name a few.
This season, POPSUGAR Fashion Director Jessica Andrews and Senior Fashion Editor Sarah Wasilak attended NYFW shows sporting many shoppable new trends. Still, looks worn by past editors continue to remain relevant. Keep reading for a full recap on what the editorial team wore to Fashion Week through the season, and refresh your wardrobe with their exact items.

New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Prints
POPSUGAR Senior Content Director of Fashion Jessica C. Andrews embraced a colorful palette, wearing a printed trench from Christopher John Rogers from Hampden Boutique. Keeping the rest of her accessories subtle, she opted for a black Luar bag and matching slingback pumps.
Outfit: Christopher John Rogers Halftone Harlequin Lightweight Trench Coat ($1,525). Luar Luar Ana Bag ($265). Prada Patent Logo Slingback Pumps ($1,200).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Neutrals
POPSUGAR Senior Fashion Editor Sarah Wasilak tapped into the quiet luxury trend this season, opting for luxe, tailored wardrobe heroes in neutral shades of brown. A Louis Vuitton monogram became the obvious statement piece to tie the tan and chocolate brown tones together.
Outfit: A.L.C. Andie Dress ($495). Louis Vuitton Monogram Bumbag ($4,460, originally $4,695). & Other Stories Soft Leather Mules ($129).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Denim
The double-denim look from the early 2000s is back in full effect. Going far beyond just Canadian tuxedos, the current trend is all about taking dressy silhouettes or romantic accessories and giving them the denim treatment. Here, Andrews pairs a patchwork minidress with embellished pumps, a drawstring mini bag, and a sharp-shouldered blazer.
Outfit: Frame Atelier Micro Flare Denim Dress ($244, originally $348). 3x1 Mary Blazer ($535). Maya Winston Small Denim Tote ($150, originally $200). Flor de María Crystal Embellished Denim Pumps ($450).

New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: White Co-ords
Blame it on Sofia Richie's honeymoon wardrobe, but breezy, white summer staples are sticking around, confirming there are no longer rules about seasonal shades. A satin set in a subtly striking silhouette goes a long way, especially since it's so easy to throw on. That will leave you time for carefully choosing other accessories that play up the look, like of-the-moment platforms or ornate jewelry.
Outfit: Enza Costa Satin Bias Off-Shoulder Top in Cloud ($145). Enza Costa Satin High Waist Wide Leg Pant in Cloud ($225). Aldo Kasie White Women's Wedges ($50, originally $98). Astrid & Miyu Olivine Wave Dome Hoops ($110). Astrid & Miyu Olivine Wave Dome Ring ($110).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Sheer
Whether naked dresses or sheer trench coats, transparent fabrics will reign supreme this season. Andrews made the trend come alive with a delicate embroidered Aje trench, colorblocked with a green Bottega Veneta clutch, and finished with Prada's logo-bearing pumps.
Outfit: Aje Ursula Trench Coat Dress ($695). Bottega Veneta Pouch ($119 monthly for Vivrelle membership). Prada Patent Logo Slingback Pumps ($1,200).

New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: High Slits
Whether it's a micro miniskirt or a waist-high slit, showing a slip of leg is a daring, yet wearable trend that can be amplified by a tall heel. Keep the look a bit more understated by opting for a flatform sandal. Here, Wasilak drew attention to her accessories instead, which included colorblock Warby Parker shades and an ombré Christian Dior shoulder bag that was accented by touches of gold throughout her look.
Outfit: Acne Studios Fluid Dress ($580). Christian Dior Lambskin Gradient Small Caro Bag ($119 to borrow with Classique membership). Larroudé Gio Sandal in Tan Leather ($315). Warby Parker Melina Sunglasses in Striped Sepia ($195+). LeMel Everyday Stretch Bracelet Set ($188).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Wrong Shoe Theory
While TikTok was the first to officially give it a name, the wrong-shoe theory has been a go-to styling technique season after season. This Spring, fashion enthusiasts will embrace it more than ever, pairing romantic dresses — like Andrews's Cecilie Bahnsen frock — with sporty sneakers. Not only is the contrast visually stunning, you can't beat the comfortable-shoe factor.
Outfit: Cecilie Bahnsen 'Ultima' Dress ($1495). Allbirds Couriers Sneakers ($125). Fendi Baguette Bag ($1210). Miu Miu Bordeaux High Bridge Sunglasses ($500).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Romantic Dresses
While quiet luxury often involves plain, pattern-less basics, chic, floral dresses also fit the bill, especially when grounded by dark sunglasses and smart flats. Wasilak navigated the art of teaming navy and black with this look, thanks to subtle hints of denim woven throughout.
Outfit: & Other Stories Voluminous Belted Midi Dress ($139). Sam Edelman Kara Slingback Flat ($130). Miu Miu Sunglasses ($530).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Pearls
Rather than overdoing it with pearls and appearing ultra-feminine, you can draw attention to the decal in a number of ways. An ivory-toned satin shoe will play up the embellishment on your bag or blouse, and you can break up the sheen with other textures. Here, Wasilak opted for raffia and linen.
Outfit: Reformation Kimberly Linen Top ($148). & Other Stories Tailored Relaxed Pleat Trousers ($129). L'alingi Jumbo Pearl Bag ($600). Nina Shoes Beverly Ivory Satin Mid-Heel Strappy Dress Sandal ($45, originally $89).
New York Fashion Week Street Style Spring 2024 Trend: Flats
Flats are not only on the runways, but all over the streets, functioning as the stylish and comfortable walking shoes we're already well-versed in, but ecstatic to welcome back into our wardrobes. Perhaps the resurgence is thanks to their simplicity, but we recommend you invest in a pair that fits you like a glove so you can get bang for your buck. Mansur Gavriel's classic square-toe silhouette does that for Wasilak, offset by a romantic white outfit.
Outfit: Aritzia Wilfred Roseland Bustier ($128). Aritzia Wilfred Bouquet Linen Skirt ($98). Mansur Gavriel Square Toe Ballerina ($395).

Andrews played to all ends of the color wheel, complementing bright hues with neutral accessories. She styled a Zimmermann coat with a COS pink sweater and a matching J.Crew skirt. Tying the look together, Andrews added a Bottega Veneta casette bag from Vivrelle and beige suede boots by Flor de María.
With hair by Tisha's Touch and textured purple "sweater" nails from B. Clawed, her glam was consistently on-point.
Outfit: Zimmermann Celestial Funnel Neck Coat ($1,787). J.Crew No. 3 Pencil Skirt in Italian Ponte ($148). Bottega Veneta Padded Cassette ($199 to borrow with Couture Membership). Flor de Maria Milly Blush Suede ($595). B. Clawed Sweater Weather Nails in Purple ($23 and up).

A tailored pantsuit can be dressed up or down, and worn oversize or fitted. Wasilak added a touch of edge to delicate elements, pairing vintage Chanel pearls from Rebag with a chainlink belt slung around the waist. At the same time, her tough combat boots stood in contrast to a dainty little purse, showcasing her penchant for striking the perfect balance.
Outfit: Nisse Gigi Tuxedo Jacket ($420) and Nisse Velma Trousers ($180, originally $360). Staud Black Micro Moon Crystal Bag ($190).

Andrews strategically incorporated architectural shapes into her second look. From her boxy Sergio Hudson for Target coat to her crescent Bottega Veneta Jodie bag from Fashionphile, her look played to the eye — and the vibrant tones were just a bonus. Andrews's makeup came courtesy of Maybelline.
Outfit: Bottega Veneta Nappa Intrecciato Mini Jodie ($1,885, originally $2,095). Marc Fisher Glorify Boot ($100, originally $149). Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High Washable Mascara ($10, originally $13).

Look Back at NYFW Fall 2023 Fashion Week Street Style: Printed Denim
With denim trends continually evolving each season, it's hard to predict what we'll come across next, be it asymmetrical waistbands, embellishments, or hand-painted art. Wasilak was drawn to Mother Denim's jeans with flame decal, and played to the '90s inspo with platform boots and a loose chambray shirt in a matching wash.
Outfit: Mother Denim All My Exs Crash Course ($345). Steve Madden Cypress Black ($130). Miu Miu MU 11WS 0 Sunglasses in Matte Black ($273, originally $530).
Look Back at NYFW Fall 2023 Fashion Week Street Style: Textural Play
Andrews played up the stripes on her Victor Glemaud mockneck dress with a fuzzy wool coat and the eye-catching intrecciato basket weave of her Bottega Veneta bag. By accenting the pattern of her midi with complementary colors, her overall look feels cohesive instead of busy.
Outfit: Victor Glemaud Rainbow Striped Midi Dress ($70 to rent).

Corsets are the hallmark of the regencycore trend and they're not going anywhere. Wasilak's Hellessy top evokes dark glamour with its bust-defining neckline and lace sash. She played up the vampy theme by adding vegan leather pants, a sequin Prada bag, and Miu Miu sunglasses.
Outfit: Wilfed The Melina Pant From Aritzia ($148).
Look Back at NYFW Fall 2023 Fashion Week Street Style: Checkered Print
A big, bold checkered print feels retro and slightly '60s-inspired. Andrews kept the nostalgic motif going with her Gucci Jackie hobo bag, a silhouette that has maintained its popularity through the years.
Outfit: Stand Studio Nina Faux Fur Coat ($125 to rent). Gucci Mini Jackie 11961 Hobo ($595).
Look Back at NYFW Fall 2023 Fashion Week Street Style: Thigh-High Boots
Wasilak incorporated Stuart Weitzman's ever-popular Ultrastuart silhouette into her Fashion Week wardrobe, revealing a slight peek of leg through her Markarian robe. While there are plenty of ways to wear thigh-highs, sporting a long jacket as a dress feels both comfortable and effortless when you're on the go.
Outfit: Stuart Weitzman Ultrastuart 100 Stretch Boot ($950).

Sade Strehlke, former POPSUGAR Editor-in-Chief, maximized her bold, saturated floral dress from Mestiza New York with a complementary handbag and slouchy boots that can be worn year-round.

Andrews was ahead of the curve with the wrong-shoe theory in a Ganni smocked plaid dress, crisp white Nike sneakers, and a Balenciaga statement-making neon-green bag from Fashionphile.

Andrews embraced the voluminous-sleeves trend in a Barbiecore-inspired minidress by Aje, complete with a Fendi logomania purse and DIFF Eyewear sunglasses.

Andrews was seeing red at Fashion Week, pairing her matching Balenciaga bag and Staud dress with a Rag & Bone classic black blazer and Gucci leather loafers.

Wasilak incorporated a touch of the animal-print trend into her otherwise neutral look comprised of a Paco Rabanne shirt, Lu Goldie sunglasses, black platform heels, an Uno de 50 bracelet, and a Simon Miller buttery-brown purse.
Look Back at NYFW Spring 2023 Fashion Week Street Style: Athleisure Meets Luxe
Shelton Boyd-Griffith, POPSUGAR contributor, opted for athleisure essentials and sleek accessories, like these Adidas X Wales Bonner yellow sweatpants mixed with a Collusion Boxy Revere white skirt, a Coperni black bag, Rhude x Thierry Lasry sunglasses, and Martine Rose loafers.
