What to Know About Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi's Romance
Since she became a household name for her role as Eleven on Netflix's "Stranger Things," fans have been curious about Millie Bobby Brown's personal life, especially now that she's engaged. While the actor may have garnered more buzz in light of "Stranger Things"'s season four release, she's also generated attention for her sweet relationship with Jake Bongiovi.
In an Oct. 16 interview with Glamour, Brown opened up about what made her realize Bongiovi was the one. She entered the relationship shortly after getting out of what she described as an "unhealthy situation" with TikToker Hunter Ecimovic, who later claimed he had groomed Brown and made other disparaging comments before eventually apologizing. The ordeal made Brown feel "publicly humiliated," she told the outlet.
Ultimately, she said, a fear of being too much kept her small. "I think I was so afraid to be a strong woman in a relationship," she told Glamour of past romances. But when she met Bongiovi, "I just felt I could be loud. He embraced that and encouraged that. And I fell in love with myself while being with him."
She added that she always knew she wanted to start a family — but Bongiovi made her realize she was ready to tie the knot, too. "I wanted to be the woman that my mom is to me and I wanted to be the woman that my grandmother was to me," she said. "So that was never my, like, intention, to be a wife. But after meeting Jake and seeing, 'Oh, I don't have to be this stereotypical wife for him. He doesn't want me to be that either. He wants me to go and do my thing and live my life, and he will hold my hand in the process of that.' I was like, 'Oh, I do want this.'"
In addition to occasionally sharing adorable tidbits like the above in interviews and opening up about wedding planning, the pair often tend to pack on the PDA when it comes to social media. Since their romantic relationship was first reported in November 2021, Brown and Bongiovi have posted plenty of photos and videos together on Instagram, including a sweet Jan. 20, 2023, post that the former captioned, "love you forava."
Brown and Bongiovi made their red carpet debut in March 2022 at the BAFTAs, sparking all sorts of buzz. Their outing at the "Stranger Things" season four premiere two months later also made headlines, but the two have generally kept their public appearances at Hollywood events to a minimum. Their last red carpet was the October 2022 premiere of Brown's "Enola Holmes 2" movie.
Brown and Bongiovi shared photos from a romantic getaway at an undisclosed location in May 2022 and were spotted on vacation in Italy that July.
As far as we know, Brown's love life has mostly been all about Bongiovi. Read ahead for everything else we know about their relationship.
Who Is Jake Bongiovi?
If you recognize Bongiovi's last name, it's because he is the son of rock star Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley. Along with his famous father, Bongiovi also has three siblings, Romeo, Jesse, and Stephanie. At The Pennington School in New Jersey, he starred on the football team and even organized a student walkout in 2018 to raise awareness about gun violence following the Stoneman Douglas Shooting in Florida, per NJ.com.
The 21-year-old is a New York native and was accepted into Syracuse University in the fall of 2020. Despite coming from a family filled with music, Bongiovi doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps. In the spring/summer 2022 issue of Man About Town, he talked about a career in music, telling the publication, "I think I'll leave that to my dad! There's really no following the act there. There was always music playing in the house growing up, all different types of genres from all different types of worlds. But what spoke to me were the people on the screen, not the voices through the speakers."
Instead of music, Bongiovi is pursuing acting and living in London, as reported by The Daily Mail in May 2022.
When Did Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi Start Dating?
Brown and Bongiovi started appearing on each other's Instagram in 2021, with Bongiovi first posting a picture of the two together in July of that year. It is unclear if the two were dating at that time, but by Nov. 1, 2021, Brown confirmed that they were an item after she shared a blurred snap of her embracing Bongiovi on the London Eye. Since then, the pair have taken their relationship to the red carpet and overseas on vacation. Now, it appears they're headed to the altar for their upcoming nuptials.
Brown revealed the pair's engagement on April 11, 2023, of course, via Instagram with a black-and-white photo of them hugged up and her diamond ring on full display. "I've loved you three summers now, honey, I want 'em all 🤍," she captioned the post, referencing lyrics from Taylor Swift's 2019 "Lover" track.
Outside of their formal outings together, Brown and Bongiovi also show each other a lot of love on social media. On May 7, 2022, the actor wished Bongiovi a happy birthday on Instagram, writing, "happy birthday baby, can't wait to fly to the moon and back with you! (Scroobie noobie)." In a similar fashion, Bongiovi penned a heartfelt message for Brown's 19th birthday in February 2023 and wrote, "Another year around the sun together happy 19th to the girl of my dreams. I love you more than words can describe. Everything about you is golden down to the core ❤️."
